May community gathering
Last week the group welcomed over 30 community members, organisations and elected officials to Centre 81 for their May Community Gathering.
The women have been working hard for the last month to make sure they were prepared for the event:
Soul Sisters, a group of migrant women who connect with others through food, were hired to cater for the event and made amazing vegan and vegetarian dishes.
A projector was bought to screen a welcome video with pictures and messages.
Martin Docherty-Hughes MP provided a video to share with the guests to welcome them.
Badges, posters, and leaflets were made and printed to give to the attendees.
Fantastic traditional Syrian dishes and desserts were made to share with guests.
Conversation starts were produced for each table to get attendees talking to one another.
Syrian and Arabic music was curated to play during the event.
Finally, resources from our Resources Tab were printed to give out to attendees.
The women also got the chance to meet their new Councillors for Clydebank Waterfront, Clydebank Central and Greater Pollok.
In one of their recent group sessions the women learned about the Scottish Council Elections and what Councillors did, so it was great to meet some Councillors in real life and chat about issues they face in the community.
We chat about food a lot at the regular group sessions, and it was great to see the women share lots of their favourite recipes with attendees. The women also kindly received a crate of food and snacks from the ASDA Clydebank Community Champion which was very generous.
The women have been helping to create lots of resources which will be useful for New Scots. These resources were printed and put on display for guests to take away as a trial run to see how they would be received in printed format.
Great fun was had by all and the feedback received has been so positive. The women can’t wait to host another event soon!
