Clydesider Magazine workshops
The women of Moments of Freedom partnered with the Clydesider Magazine earlier this year to work on creating a new resource to help welcome other New Scots to their communities.
The woman met with Caroline from the Clydesider every week before the summer holidays to work on different art activities which would make up the basis of their new resource, a welcome booklet called A Flavour of New Life.
The women worked with Caroline on different pieces of artwork. They made welcome posters, created mosaic tiles and cyanotype art.
These pieces of artwork formed the background of each page of the booklet and will be put on display later in the year at the Clydesider exhibition in Dalmuir Barclay Church.
The group shared their experiences of living in Scotland as a New Scot women and wanted to create a booklet that they could share with other New Scots that would be useful in their integration journeys.
A huge part of Moments of Freedom’s work over the last few years has been around food and cultural sharing, and this has included cooking and preparing Syrian dishes for members of the West Dunbartonshire community. The women included two of their favourite recipes, which they hope other people in the community will make and enjoy at home.
The women enjoy writing and sharing poetry and have even led poetry sessions with other New Scots who resettled in Clydebank from Afghanistan. In the booklet, the women chose to include a new powerful poem which has been put on the back page.
The group can’t wait to share this welcome booklet with elected members, the council and other community groups across West Dunbartonshire. You can read more about the workshops with the Clydesider in the latest edition of the magazine.
