Burns Day Lunch
Last week we gathered in Centre 81 for a celebratory lunch.
The women are well established poets with their poems being featured in their film, and in the Clydesider Magazine. We discussed their poetry and how they have put together a poetry resource for the website encouraging others, and New Scots, to express themselves via poetry.
We joked, laughed and shared stories over a lovely lunch celebrating the bard. We spent time comparing recipes that are well known in Scotland and used at times of celebration. We discussed the women’s favourite Scottish treats and they shared their Syrian favourites.
Two of the women kindly made two Syrian desserts for us to try and enjoy:
One of which we discovered is simply the Syrian version of Scottish truffles! It is made and presented in the same way, except using a powered wheat mix instead of digestive biscuits!
We also took the time to celebrate Jill, who is moving on to pastures new. Jill helped start the Moments of Freedom group and has been so integral to its success. We shared tears, stories and lots of lovely pictures to see how far the women have come since the first meeting in 2017.
